First email from the MTC
Hey!!!
I would attempt to type at least like hello in Spanish or something but I'm still not that confident in it yet haha. The MTC is great!! All the Spanish speaking missionaries are on the West Campus which is where they took over Wyview and Raintree apartments and converted them into the residence halls and classrooms. So basically its super ghetto. Our Gyms that we go to everyday for like volleyball and basketball and weights and stuff are in these super cool like white domes haha. They look like ginormous igloos. I've hardly been to the Main campus at all. I was checked in there and had lunch, but then we took a bus to this campus and i hadn't been back since today when we went to the temple so we stopped by there to get lunch! It is so nice being here because EVERYONE here is learning Spanish! everyone says Hola when we pass by haha. i love it.
The MTC is soooo hard though!!! like my first day seems like last week... and they fully immerse you in spanish in the classroom but its way good because i remember sooooo much more Spanish than i thought i would from highschool and middle school. Like, it seriously helps you if you are going to learn Spanish. My teacher is wayyyyyyy cool!! His name is Brother Wright and he wants to be a Prosthetician like me! its cool. Hes so happy and like everyone else we have talked to says that he is the best teacher as well. I'm in a Trio of companions and they are both way cool! Elder Cox is 18 right out of highschool and he got made our district leader! Crazy!! and the other elder, Elder Smith, is like almost 21 and served the first 6 months of his mission in Brazil and learned Portuguese and now he has to learn Spanish for Nicaragua! haha its interesting. Hes learning way faster than us though because there are so many similarities between the languages. Spanish is coming pretty fast! i can talk to someone is Spanish... in about like a quarter the speed of english but its cool! we teach these "investigators" here who are volunteers and we have to teach them in pure Spanish! its soo crazy! Our first lesson was interesting because i couldn't figure out how to ask her if she would pray for us now, and i pretty much just kept asking her if she could pray, like the ability. it was awkward haha. but we teach her again tonight and it should go wayyy better.
I love you all for all your support and i can feel the strength of the spirit making me stronger. I don't feel like the struggles are getting lighter or less but instead i am getting stronger to bear them and make the most out of this. I cant wait to get out in the field teaching some real investigators and living to serve!
My P-day is on Saturdays for my whole MTC time so that's when you can expect an email from me! Letters anyday though :P
I love you all!!
Love, Elder Marrott
