Hey hey!!

Hey hey!!

So That Melissa girl we met is super ready for baptism. We got permission to baptize her early so that should be happening next Saturday!! She’s so cool. She made me and my comp some bookmarks for our scriptures so that’s like super cool.  Anyways besides that we are doing good! We have reactivated a few more people and that’s like way good for us! it’s the best way to find more people to teach.

So next Monday is the 15th of September which is like the real Cinco de Mayo. It’s gonna be crazyyy. There are like a million little booths where they are selling like super cool Mexican stuff like flags and stuff. I bought me a fake mustache :). With my companion being the new district leader we are going to be going on a ton more divisions. It should be pretty cool though. Weirdly our zone is like 75% Americans and the rest Latinos. Plus pretty much everyone here is way cool.

Besides that I don’t really know what else is new! Still working hard like a missionary should! Learning lots and preachin’ the word! I love you all and the support you give!!

Questions:
1. How do you like Mexico so far? Mexico is alright. Super ghetto. Super cheap. Basically all the stereotypes. But it’s my home! I will never live here as not a missionary though. I can promise you that. haha.
2. What is the WORST thing you’ve eaten?  To be honest almost nothing.... probably a torta from the street that we got on the way to a district meeting. It was just loaded with raw onions. Tortas are probably my least favorite.
3. What is the BEST thing you’ve eaten?  Gordas. They are like these amazing things... idk how to explain. They have chicken or whatever in them that’s fried and potatoes and the "buns" are these two like fried fat tortillas and it’s just amazing. Gorda means fat girl haha.
4. What do you do that bugs your companion the most?  What does he like about you?  I think I have a lot of Spencer in me in that I talk a lot. And go off on tangents for a while about things that he just doesn’t care about haha. We have so much just walking time between pueblos that I don’t think it’s too bad though. I think he likes that I can just make us laugh sometimes. And that I’m pretty normal. I feel like we can both be just ourselves around each other which is nice.
5. What does your companion do that bugs you the most?  What do you like about him?  He gets stressed a lot about things he can’t really change. And when he gets stressed he kind of closes and won’t tell me what’s going on. And he’s super picky about being on time to everything. So most of the time we get places way early and have nothing to do. Besides that he’s cool though. Basically the same. We just talk and get along.. idk he’d be a pretty cool guy to hang out with if we were ever in the same place after the mish.
6. Do you teach classes or have leadership roles at church?  Uhh. We have like a super tiny branch. We teach the Principios del evangelio when there are investigators or anyone to teach. Besides that we are just like the supports of our branch. I can’t imagine this branch ever growing without missionaries.
7.  Who does your laundry? If you, where?  Who cleans your apartment? We do our laundry at this members house. Her machine is broke though... so i may be washing by hand today... ugh. We clean our apartment.
8. Have you been to Walmart? If yes, how is it different from ours?  I haven’t been yet. But I’ve been to this other supermarket thing. Basically it’s a lot more cramped and ghetto... Just... mexicanized.
9. What is the closest tourist place you want to visit?  We are actually going next Monday to Tepotzlan. This big pyramid thing. It’s gonna be sick! I’ll send pics then.
10.  How is your Spanish coming along?  My Spanish is good. I think. I have a super American accent I think but idk. I learn more and more every day. If I’m with my companion I’m pretty good. Over the phone is really hard. But if I expect what someone is talking about I can understand them pretty well. And get my points across usually.
11.  Any problems from having your appendix out?  So far no. I used to have blood stains from one of the stitches but I think it’s pretty well closed. I will definitely have the scars when I get back though!

First Baptism!

Woo!

Good week. I had my first baptism yesterday!!! It was that family that fell through last week. We just have to get the son now so hopefully next week for him! He already passed his baptismal interview but he doesn’t feel like he has like completely repented or just doesn’t feel ready. We never really had the opportunity to come by his house and talk to him because they don’t have a phone and he works a lot and sporadically.

We also found this one girl last week. SUPER ESCOGIDO. She used to live in Acapulco and was taught by the missionaries there and had a baptismal date but then they moved here for some reason. Anyways she just like got our attention one day from her house and was like hey! Come teach me! haha. So yeah we are trying to get permission to baptize her early because she is so ready. You have to have 5 times in the church to be baptized but we are trying to get it moved to the Saturday before her 4th. She is totally fine with it but we will see how the pres of the mission feels about it.... I asked him but i think he was a bit mad we moved it before we called him. Whatever happens she’s so cool she won’t care if she has to wait just a bit longer.

Basically what I have learned with her is that God works through us to get his work done. We did nothing to teach her everything that she knows and get her where she is. We just are the ones with the authority to baptize her and give her what she really wants. It’s a cool feeling to be like that much of an instrument in someone’s conversion.

The Changes we went on were pretty cool! I got to go with this elder from the Yucatan and it was way cool. I finally was forced to speak in Spanish all day haha. Then i got to hang out with the ZLs for a day because my comp went on a cuernavacation because he will be the new District leader. Cool for him! Just means we will be a lot busier.

I’m really starting to feel a lot more comfortable and liking Mexico more. Besides that it is just ghetto as heck and i would never want to live here as not a missionary…I love it!! haha.

Take care everyone. I love you all.
