Rededication of Mexico City Temple and New Companion, Elder Spencer

Everyone,

Hey!

This week was really good. My last week with Elder Stumpf... It’s too bad that we only had 1 change together. He was super fun and we did some really good work together. There were a lot of people really sad when he said goodbye to everyone. I’ll see him still though at consejos. Definitely a buddy that I’m going to look up after the mission. Plus he’s from Rexburg so there’s that haha.

So the coolest thing this week was this weekend! This weekend they did the rededication of the Mexico City temple. I don’t think I had ever seen a dedication or rededication before and it was one of the coolest things of my life. So Saturday they did a cultural event. I hope it’s like recorded and we can watch it again someplace. It was like a play of the story of the book of Mormon and then how God planted seeds in the hearts of the people to come to Mexico and start the church here. It was super inspiring. Then on Sunday they did 3 sessions of the rededication. It was cool because it was broadcasted from INSIDE the temple. President Eyring was there and Holland as well. It was sooo coool. The three sessions were just different in the talks, the dedicatory prayer was the same in all of them. The only weird thing was... It was in English!!! I have no idea how they messed up on the transmission or we were connected to the wrong one or something but everyone who talked in Spanish was translated to English.. Then WE as the American missionaries and another member had to translate through a microphone. It was ridiculous but still really cool.

So my new comp is Elder Spencer. He’s from Eugene Oregon. He’s pretty cool. I never worked with him before but from the consejos that we go to for zone leaders I’ve met and talked to him. I’m excited because we have a ton of work to do here and we are going to be really busy! We have 2 baptisms pretty much confirmed for this weekend and then like 4 more that are pending. I’m super excited. It’s funny because Elder Spencer before took Elder Stumpfs place in his old area and now he’s doing it again! haha.

Anyways this week I think my testimony most grew about the fact that our leaders are guided by revelation. Its super key in the church and it made me think of how important it is for EVERY leader to pass on the revelation. If some bishop doesn’t do his job he’s cutting off the ward from modern day revelation that is what makes this the true church. The same goes for any position. It’s an interesting concept that I like. Makes me know that I’m in the true church. I love being a missionary!!!! I wouldn’t give it up for anything.

This week we should also be going to teach 2 families that live in some little towns outside of Chilpancingo. Should be fun!! I’ll send pics.

Love you all have a great week!!!

Self-Reliance...

Everyone,

So we just got back from going to lunch at the restaurant of an investigator! She has like a super nice restaurant and it was so good. I’m sending pics. I had this arrachera and it was amazing.

Anyways, so we didn’t baptize this week! The hermana that was going to get baptized literally just disappeared the day of. I was so mad. Like she’s always kind of weird but it kind of just shows that she’s not ready. I feel like she wouldn’t pursue to get baptized if we just left. It makes me sad really. She’s really not that educated. There have been like good lessons and just super weird lessons with her. We still haven’t talked to her since the weekend because she didn’t go to church either but her aunt that’s a member was all mad. We will see..

This week was busy though! So yeah my comp is good. Still hasn’t passed the stone but he’s not like rolling over in pain anymore. I think the worst part of kidney stones must be passing them from the kidney to the bladder.. He got an ultrasound and the stone is already in his bladder. He was like dying before. All’s good now!

This week an old investigator moved back to our area and he was like super ready to get baptized and we met him! For some reason he didn’t go to church but he should be baptized like next week or maybe even this one. Another sweet investigator we have is named Litzi. I think I wrote a little about her but she is like so cool. She wants to get baptized so bad. Her parents won’t let her though. We did a special fast with her this week to help her and I think it’s working. She should be baptized within like 3 weeks because she is really trying with her mom.

One of my favorite principles that I learned about more this week is the self-reliance. It’s an infinite principle that motivates everything. I love it. It’s sooooo important and I feel like it’s the difference between those who make it to heaven and those who don’t.. Salvation is PERSONAL. You have to try!! Anyways just a little spiritual note.

Anyways that was my week. I’m a bit rushed for time so sorry! I love you all.

Have a good week!!
